Badwater Basin - Death Valley National Park, California
Out on the salt flat at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, California. This is the lowest point in North America, at 282 feet below sea level. The conditions cause the salt to form into hexagonal formations over time.
Out on the salt flat at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, California. The shade from the hills behind me is quickly vanishing, revealing sun and bright reflections. I was rapidly retreating from this, because the high temperature on this day was 120 degrees. Standing on the salt flat in such conditions is like being in a frying pan.

Spring fed pool of water at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park - California. This is known was Badwater because the water pushes up through all of the salt making it undrinkable. It's interesting to see standing water in one of the hottest places on Earth.
